You can manage a full caseload, every student, every note, and every draft entirely on your device, with no internet connection and no Google account required. The app is yours to use exactly as connected or disconnected as you choose, governed by the same standards that already apply to the rest of your work.
Nothing you type is ever more than half a second from being saved. As you work, REDAssist saves automatically to your device about 500 milliseconds after you stop typing — no save button, nothing to remember, no connection needed.
When you do connect, your caseload backs up to your own Google Drive continuously. REDAssist keeps three rolling snapshots in your Drive — one that's always current, one from roughly an hour ago, and one from roughly four hours ago. Backups happen automatically: right when you open a caseload, every ten minutes while you work, whenever you switch away from the tab, and whenever you close it.
You can name and download a complete backup anytime. One click gives you a .json file containing your full caseload and to-do items, named however you like. It works on any computer, with no account required to restore it.
Multiple caseloads never mix. Whether you're tracking one campus or several, each named caseload has entirely separate storage and entirely separate Drive backups. Nothing from one can silently overwrite another.
Nothing loads without you choosing it. Every time you open REDAssist, you pick which caseload to work in — from what's saved on this device, from a Drive backup, from a file, or a fresh start. Nothing opens automatically.
Restoring is deliberate and clearly explained. Loading a backup always shows a clear warning that it will replace your current work, and asks you to confirm. It is not reversible, so REDAssist makes sure you know that before you proceed; there's no ambiguity about what's about to happen.
If saving to your device ever fails, you're told immediately. A full or restricted browser is rare, but if it happens, REDAssist shows a persistent notice with a one-click way to download your current work, so nothing is lost silently.
Corrupted data is preserved, never erased. In the rare case that your browser's storage becomes unreadable, REDAssist doesn't guess or overwrite — it stops, keeps the original data intact for recovery, and walks you through restoring from a backup.
Student information is stored on your device and, if you choose to connect it, in your own Google Drive account — nowhere else. There's no backend database, no company server, nothing REDAssist itself can see.
Signing in gives REDAssist a Drive connection that lives only in memory — refreshing the page ends it. That's a deliberate tradeoff: less convenience, but nothing sensitive is ever written to disk in a way that could be recovered by anyone else using the device.
